Has the time come for ClojureScript?
Hosted by Clojure Ireland
Details
This event will be sponsored by Circle CI. Circle is a firm built on Clojure, with some staff already working here in Ireland.
Hot snacks will be served by Lillie's, courtesy of Circle.
Speaker #1: Oliver Mooney
Topic: Introduction to ClojureScript
Title: "ClojureScript vs Modern Javascript"
Description: a comparison between classic ClojureScript and JavaScript - including a look at upcoming ECMAScript 6 features, which ClojureScript already provides.
Speaker #2: Dan Kersten
Title: "Building a web app in Clojure(Script)".
A walk-through of building a simple web app from the ground up, using the Chestnut Leiningen template. The talk will cover live coding with Figwheel, client-side UI in ClojureScript using Om and a basic Ring/Compojure server.
The goal is to demonstrate how to quickly get started writing simple but useful applications in Clojure(Script) in a live coding environment.
In order to put the group on a firmer footing, we'll hold a brief AGM and vote on a constitution.
The document bears a striking resemblance to the constitution for Python Ireland (thanks guys!). You can see a draft here:

(The AGM will take up only a few minutes.)
Profile of Dan Kersten: "I'm a programming enthusiast who loves languages which diverge from the mainstream. I especially enjoy functional programming and Clojure. I started my professional programming career writing anti-spam/fraud software in Java and C++ in the telco industry before moving on to web development in Python, embedded systems in C and now web app development in Clojure."
Profile of first speaker: "Oliver Mooney is the founder of GetBulb, a data visualisation startup based in Dublin's city centre. He coded the first version of the app (which you can try on http://www.getbulb.com (http://www.getbulb.com/)) in JavaScript, using the SproutCore framework, as used by Apple. The next version is being produced in ClojureScript. GetBulb has won several awards including the 2012 Irish Times Digital Challenge."
