Walk: Killiney hill to Dalkey for lunch.

Details

Hi everyone 👋

Like to join us for a fabulous coastal walk from Killiney to Dalkey 😃

We will meet at Killiney dart station at 11am.

And finish in Dalkey at around 1:30 for lunch.

We can also grab a coffee at the cafe on Killiney hill.

We start with a beach side walk, We will walk up Vico road to Killiney hill park and admire the amazing sea views and the beautiful and expensive houses along the way.

In the park we will see the Obelisk at the summit- built to provide work during the terrible winter of 1741.

From the summit, you’ll see the reason for all those grand Italianate names – you’re looking out over Dublin’s answer to the Bay of Naples – as well as the Sugar LoafMountain, the Wicklow Mountains and Dalkey Island, with its stony Martello Tower.

Press downwards over the hill, and we pass the quarry from where the granite was extracted to build Dun Laoghaire’s mighty piers. Nowadays, its sheer sides make it the abseiling and rock-climbing hotspot for adventure-sports.

We will then leave the park via the Cats Ladder steps back onto Vico road

Heading towards Dalkey village. Again we will have amazing sea views.

Walk Length: about 9km on paths

Difficulty: a little uphill at start but easy

What to bring: some snacks and drinks, umbrella & light raincoat if rain expected.

What to wear: walking shoes or sneakers will be fine.

Please remember that everyone who joins the walk does so entirely at their own risk. The organizers of the walk will show you the route of the walk but cannot be held responsible in any way for any injury or loss which anyone may experience while on the walk or as a result of being on the walk.
