Proverbs: The Philosophy of the Bible
What does it mean to live wisely? Can we become good through knowledge alone, or must we also learn to govern ourselves?
Join the Close Reading Club for an exploration of the Book of Proverbs, one of the foundational works of biblical wisdom literature.
We’ll examine two central ideas in the Hebrew tradition: chokhmah (wisdom) and musar (discipline, instruction, and correction).
Together, we’ll consider how wisdom and self-government make possible a good life, and practice close reading while simultaneously meeting new people in the city and making friends.
No religious background is required but prior reading is encouraged. We’ll provide selected passages in Hebrew and English.
Come ready to think, question, and discuss.
