June meetup with Short talks, LevelUp, & food

Details

Let’s meet up for yet another exciting Cloud Computing meetup in Charlottesville (that we all secretly know is the next big thing!)

Some exciting news first!!

LOCATION: we will have our meetups at a brand spanking new location at Stonefield Shops! This allows us ample free parking and acres of restaurant and bar space. So if anyone gets hungry, and doesn’t like the food we serve, they can totally head to one of many places scattered around within walking distance! The new location is at 2050 Bond Street, suite # 150, Charlottesville VA (right across the street from Midici's Pizzeria!)

AGENDA:

  1. Short Presentations:
For this meetup we’ll be having two speakers come up front and tell us about their cloud experience and talk about some cool projects they have worked on in the past.

Speaker # 1:
Phil Estes, IBM
Presentation Title: "My Journey to the Cloud via Open-Source"

Speaker # 2:
Dave Goldstein, University of Virginia
Presentation Title: “Managing AWS infrastructure with Terraform”

Special Speaker:
Broadus Palmer, LinuxAcademy.com
Presentation Title: "LevelUp into the Cloud"

  1. LevelUp into the Cloud
This month will be the start of our “LevelUp” series where we will focus on how people are making active efforts to transition from ANY field to cloud computing. We will hear about their journeys, what motivated them, the struggles they had to endure, and what positive effects the switch had. For this month we have Broadus Palmer join us from LinuxAcademy.com
He will talk to us about his move from banking to cloud computing and how he helps many others like him everyday to become cloud professionals.

Linux Academy is also proudly sponsoring the meetup, so come along to learn about their services, and (hopefully) grab some swag!

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
Anyone and everyone! Because the cloud is the future. I’m not kidding you here. If you own a computer and want to know about the next industrial revolution, it’s time to learn about the cloud and the digital movement it is spearheading. You should network with people here and find out how you too can make this work for you. If you’re a freelancer, a student, business owner, or a full time professional, come on over. Because no matter what app you use on your phone or laptop, the cloud powers it in some way!

MISC:
As usual there will be food and drinks! I would love if you guys can mention your food allergies or restrictions in the comments below.
