Scaling with Go – From Legacy Proxies to Kubernetes Operators

Details
This is a joint event with the Backend Developers of Bucharest meetup.
Join us on Thursday, June 26th, for another hands-on edition of Cloud Native Bucharest, hosted by ING Hubs Romania! This time we’re going deep into Go-powered backend systems, from modernizing legacy infrastructure to extending Kubernetes with custom operators.
Here’s what’s on the agenda:
## 🎤 Talk 1: The Journey to Modernize a High-Performing Microservice in Golang
🕗 19:00 – 19:30 Speaker: Petrică Voicu (Principal Software Engineering Manager – Azure Cloud Storage)
PayPal’s internal database proxy—originally built in C++ back when Elon Musk was still at the helm—has served well for decades. But it was time for a change. In this session, Petrică will share the challenges and learnings from rewriting this mission-critical microservice in Go, modernizing it without disrupting performance or scale.
## 🎤 Talk 2: Extending Your Apps with Kubernetes: A RabbitMQ Consumer Operator Built with Go
🕗 19:30 – 20:00 Speaker: Mihai Gogu (Platform Engineer @ AdoreMe Tech)
Why should applications always adapt to infrastructure? What if infrastructure adapted to applications? In this talk, Mihai presents a Kubernetes operator built with Go and Kubebuilder that dynamically manages RabbitMQ consumers based on real-time queue activity. The result: smarter resource usage, less waste, and a more proactive platform.
📍 Location: ING Hubs Romania, Calea Victoriei, 174-176
📅 Date: Thursday, June 26, 2024
🕖 Time: 19:00 – 21:00 (talks + networking)
Come for the Go insights, stay for the community! 🚀
