Info:
Look Ma, No Secrets - Cloud Native software development relies on many applications and services working together to deliver the best products. Real-world production environments are distributed across different container orchestration systems and PaaS platforms scheduling on top of the variety of cloud providers. As environments grow in complexity and size establishing a secure trust between the workloads becomes more and more difficult. It creates challenges for development and operation teams by putting at risk their productivity and increases friction with security teams as a result. SPIFFE and SPIRE are two CNCF projects that aim to establish trust between workloads without using pre-shared secrets and across heterogeneous environments. This talk will make an introduction to the SPIFFE and SPIRE concepts.
Georgi is a former Development Architect in the security organization of the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP). In the past, he actively contributed to multiple open source (OSS) projects in the Cloud Foundry (CF) Computing Foundation. Georgi has been a speaker at CF Summits and KubeCon co-located events.
Rado is а Development Architect in the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) with a background in Cloud Architecture, DevOps, Private Cloud, Security, and Lifecycle Management.
How We Injected the Kubernetes Virus Into Our Corporation Without Activating the Immune System! - With a brief overview of SAP’s highly successful client/server architecture, we outline the evolution of the SAP’s core architecture driven by enterprise customer needs and the ensuing innovators dilemma that SAP - as a decidedly mature business with on-premise focus - faced with the “cloud”. We discuss with the factors that led to the adoption of Kubernetes as gateway technology to a globally distributed system. We will discover an architectural design pattern for scale-out hidden in plain sight (!) that is employed also in Project Gardener. Lastly, we conclude how under the patronage of cloud-native technologies, Gardener is making inroads into commercial, productive services at SAP.
Vasu is Vice President and Chief Architect on topics concerning the Cloud Native Strategy at SAP. Having always been accused of having his head in the clouds, he went on to make it his career. In his current role, he works with several cross-product initiatives to foster the cloud-native mindset across engineering teams. In spite of having a very brown thumb, he went green by reaching into the bountiful cloud native and open-source ecosystem and was instrumental in establishing Kubernetes (with Project Gardener) as the modern foundation at SAP. As a champion of cloud-native development, advocating both inner and open source technologies, he aims to make innovation simpler for both SAP and its customers. Vasu holds a degree in Physics and Computer Science from the University of Osnabrück but refuses to be tied down to any geography. He prefers it in the cloud.
Don't miss this opportunity to gain insights from these industry experts and connect with fellow cloud-native and platform engineering enthusiasts. Whether you are an experienced professional or just starting your journey in this field, this meetup promises to be both informative and inspiring.
Refreshments and networking opportunities will be available. Be sure to RSVP and save your spot for an evening of learning and community building. We look forward to seeing you there!
