Two Standards Walk Into an Agent: Runtime Agent Control with OpenTelemetry and OpenFeature (Simon Schrottner)

Autonomous agents are going into production with no open, vendor-neutral way to change what they do at runtime or to see why they decided what they did. Vendors are now building that control layer as proprietary infrastructure, the way each once built its own observability stack before OpenTelemetry and its own feature flag SDK before OpenFeature. Simon shows that the two CNCF standards already cover it: OpenTelemetry as the agent's observation, OpenFeature as its control. The demo is a physical party game on a Raspberry Pi, run by an agent that changes the game while it is played. The talk covers physical system control, infrastructure management, switching models live, changing permissions, and rolling back without a redeploy.

Simon Schrottner is a CNCF Ambassador and a maintainer of OpenFeature, the CNCF project for vendor-neutral feature flagging. He speaks at conferences including KubeCon + CloudNativeCon and Devoxx, and mentors people making their first open source contributions.
