Talk 1:
Processing millions of events per second with Apache Kafka on Kubernetes
Speaker: Rasmus Møller Selsmark
The Data Platform team at Unity builds and maintains systems and infrastructure for processing millions of events from games, with Apache Kafka as a key component. In this talk, Rasmus will be sharing the team’s experiences and learnings from running larger scale Apache Kafka clusters with up to 60 brokers on Kubernetes.Topics:
- Deploying multi-zone Kafka clusters in Kubernetes using the Strimzi operator
- Observability using Prometheus, taking a look at the dashboards and alerts we have configured
- Getting end-to-end latency metrics using KMinion
- Using Cruise Control for balancing cluster load
- Reducing local disk usage on brokers with Tiered Storage
- Data pipelines: Self-serve for creating clusters and topics (with a look at KCL templating), how to deal with breaking changes and versioning of topics, schema registry
- Plus a few stories of when things didn’t go exactly as planned.
Talk 2:
The Beginning Of A Journey To The Edge with Talos Kubernetes by Khaled Hammoun and Daniel Hansen @ JYSK
Speaker: Khaled Hammoun & Daniel Nygaard Hansen
JYSK operates in over 48 countries, with more than 3,500 stores worldwide—each store representing the true edge of our global enterprise. But how do you deliver modern digital solutions to such a diverse, distributed, and resource-constrained environment?
Join us as we share our journey to the edge: the motivations behind our strategy, the real-world challenges we faced, and the lessons learned from our failures and successes. Imagine deploying to thousands of stores, each with its own unique configurations and often unpredictable network conditions. Our mission: build a solution so lightweight and flexible enough to run anywhere, from the most powerful servers to the humblest machines.
Bandwidth limitations? Hardware diversity? We faced it all. Discover how Talos Linux became a game changer, enabling us to deliver a unified, reliable platform across every store—no matter the constraints.
But this is just the beginning. We’ll share our vision for the future, the next steps in our infrastructure evolution, and how these innovations can transform not just JYSK, but any enterprise looking to reach its true edge.
