Meetup theme: Kubernetes operators
Program:

  • 18:00 Introduction - Juraj Hanták [EN]
  • 18:10 Operator Workflows - Attila Mészáros [EN]

Kubernetes Operators provide a generic way to manage resources in and outside of a Kubernetes cluster. Developers usually implement the resource management logic from scratch using the low-level API of an operator framework. However, this is a double edge sword, since it opens the door for mistakes and misunderstandings about how the standard reconciliation logic in an operator should be implemented.
Therefore Java Operator SDK provides also a higher level API, that makes it very simple to implement reconciliation logic of a single resource but also complex workflows. Naturally, it works with familiar constructs as in well-known infrastructure as code tools like Terraform, Cloudformation and/or CDKs.
I will explain how such standard resource management logic should look in Kubernetes operators and how it compares to Terraform. The talk should clarify the patterns, what are the key differences, where operators shine and where they are more complex.

  • 19:00 Writing operators in python - Kopf - Věroš Kaplan [EN] - ONLINE

Kopf is a library for Python that offers an easy way to create your own Kubernetes operators.
Let's see how this is done and write your own operator.
