Talk Details
· Baillie Gifford's Kubernetes Cloud Journey (Andrew Garner, Baillie Gifford)
Baillie Gifford recently moved their entire on-premises Kubernetes platform to the cloud as part of their push to modernise and become more cloud native. They ditched their old imperative scripts and pipelines in favour of IaC with Terraform and GitOps using FluxCD, improving both the platform and how they work.
The talk covers the friction points with the old setup, how they designed and built the new platform, and what it was like migrating over 1500 workloads. We'll dive into the improvements that were made, lessons learned along the way, and what's coming up next.
· Turning Kubernetes Networking up to 11 (Dan Finneran, Isovalent)
As Kubernetes has gained in adoption it finds itself being deployed in increasingly different environments that creates requirements on networking that were simply not envisioned when Kubernetes was originally conceived. This talk will cover numerous design patterns and network architectures that are now often needed within a cluster to fulfil the needs of the applications, additionally we’ll look at how various projects like Cilium and eBPF have filled these gaps.
Dan Finneran is a Principle Community Advocate at Isovalent. His journey to today has included bare-metal, jails, zones, vms and containers where he is currently enjoying the fast paced ride in the cloud native space. He also created & maintains a popular Open-Source load-balancer for Kubernetes and contributes to upstream Kubernetes. He’s also been fortunate to present at events ranging from the British computing society, HPE Technical solutions summit to DockerCon and KubeCon amongst others.
