Ambient Mesh Networking Deep Dive (Alessandro Vozza, Solo.io)
An in-depth traffic routing analysis of Istio in Ambient Mesh mode, diving deep into the life of a packet as it originates in the application and moves thru the networking stack into the Ztunnel (with or without eBPF) and flows securely across networks and nodes into waypoint proxies for L7 processing. The talk will challenge the knowledge of the audience on packet filtering with iptables and introduce them to eBPF routing as well; we will constantly keep an eye on security as we follow the packet flows.
Community leader and CNCF ambassador, Alessandro has spent the last few years building cloud native infrastructures for Microsoft customers, animating the Dutch community, and training others to pass the CKx exams. He has passion for all things cloud native, he's been around open source for 25 years and recently moved to a new Developer Relations role at Solo.io, where he's on a mission to install a service mesh in every Kubernetes cluster he gets his hands on. A Midsummer Night's Multi-Cloud Dream: Crossplane with GitOps is like fairies with magic (Ryota Sawada, UPSIDER, Inc.)
When provisioning your cloud system with a reproducible IaC setup, it's common to begin your journey with Terraform. Although Terraform is an excellent solution, mastering it requires learning HCL, provider resources, planning, applying, and state management, among other concepts. Interestingly, Terraform predates Kubernetes by just a few months in terms of its initial release, which might lead you to wonder, "Is there a more Cloud Native alternative?" In this talk, we will explore using Crossplane to provision a multi-cloud setup in conjunction with Flux. We can manage all the cloud resources, including those Kubernetes clusters on cloud, using Kubernetes and GitOps. While fairies help with some magic, we'll try not to drown in YAML -- we shall see if this is either a dream or nightmare.
Find him on Twitter @rytswd. Ryota is a Principal Engineer at UPSIDER, Inc., a startup providing B2B payment solutions for businesses mainly in Japan. He has worked on developing the company’s core payment processing system, and built the platform embracing Kubernetes, Argo, Istio, and other Cloud Native technologies, ensuring stable and resilient payment experience. Prior to UPSIDER, Inc., he worked for several years as system support and software engineer in one of the world’s largest financial services companies.
How you can optimise your applications using(continuous) profiling (Christian Simon, Grafana Labs)
A modern observability stack providing you with logs, metrics and traces, makes it quite easy to understand which applications are underperforming in your architecture and often just by scaling up you can solve the problem. By adopting continuous profiling you can avoid that extra hardware cost and figure out how and where to optimise your applications instead.
Christian can rely on a broad set of experiences around the Linux ecosystem. Starting as early as Kernel version 2.2, he managed to convert his hobby into a career: working as a Kubernetes engineer (some might remember my project kube-lego) showed me the value a modern observability stack can provide. I am now working as a Software Engineer on Grafana Lab's Pyroscope team. twitter.com/simonswine
