What we’re about
Welcome to our Community!
Our Cloud Native Night focuses on designing cloud platforms and developing distributed applications with the goal of enabling fault-tolerant, elastically scaling, and agile products. We are deeply engaged in the entire Cloud Native landscape, utilizing tools like Kubernetes and others, and prefer to build applications using Java and Go. Additionally, we explore other software topics, e.g. Security, Artificial Intelligence & Data Engineering to deepen our understanding of the broader challenges in the world of software development.
Hosted by QAware
QAware is an IT consulting and software development company for individual software. Our core competencies include cloud computing, big data and applied AI. We believe that real progress in software development comes from teamwork, continuous expert exchange and ongoing education.
Our goal is to unite people with a love for digital design, software architecture, software quality and coding. Therefore we want to build and maintain a community in which we discuss and shape the future of software together. We are happy to exchange ideas with other experts who share our love for code! You are more than welcome to join our community and engage with us.

Cloud Native Night Munich
In this meetup, we’ll explore why legacy systems are more than just “old code” and how modern approaches can make them valuable again. Our speakers will share different perspectives: from real-life experiences dealing with historically grown architectures to innovative open-source tools that bring AI into the modernization journey.
Join us for inspiring talks, practical insights, and the chance to connect with the community on how to shape the future of software while learning from its past.
THIS MEETUP WILL BE HYBRID. |

*** ABSTRACTS ***
Is this art or trash? - Why legacy systems are hidden gems and how to make them shine again for the next decades!, Tobias Leicher (z Client Architect at IBM)
In this talk we want to address a big elephant in the room of most companies: Legacy Systems. Often seen as a burden that we just need to replace sooner rather than later, they eventually proof to be very important still. But due to many years of being ignored those applications often accumulated a big technical debt. We want to explore different ways to deal with it and why a modernisation often is a very good alternative to a full rewrite or replacement by a packaged application. Let’s quickly dive into the advantages and disadvantages of microservice architectures and why core applications often benefit from a componentised, but monolithic structure and what could be done to achieve that when you deal with a “historically grown” architecture. A promise upfront, this session is no preaching, but real life experience.
Your Legacy, Upgraded: AI-Powered Java Modernisation with Konveyor, Markus Zimmermann (Software Architect at QAware)
The promise is huge: use AI to transform applications for the cloud. But how far along are open source tools in making this a reality?
Legacy application modernisation used to be slow and unpredictable. Today, the Konveyor project, a CNCF Sandbox project, is changing that by using AI to automate the process. Konveyor analyses your legacy Java application to find patterns that hinder successful cloud development and operations. Then, it offers AI-assisted modernisation suggestions directly within your IDE, like VS Code, making the whole process faster and more integrated than ever before.
