Details
Get Ready for Cloud Platform Engineering London’s Xmas Meetup 2024 – December 12th ❄️
Join us as Appvia hosts the Xmas Meetup 2024 on December 12th at CIVO Tech Junction, bringing together cloud, infrastructure, and Kubernetes enthusiasts for a festive evening.
What to Expect:
Techie banter, some of the best minds in our space, and 3 fantastic talks from special guests. We also have exciting announcements about the future of the networking event and our growing community! And, of course, Food. Drinks. Good Conversation.
Speaker Lineup:
TALK No.1: Rocky Road to Microservices with Roman Shmyhelskyi of Hitachi Vantara
"Rocky Road to Microservices" takes you through the journey of migrating from a monolithic architecture to microservices, highlighting the challenges, successes, and lessons learned along the way. The talk covers why the migration was needed, the steps taken to implement it, and key insights into what worked well, what didn't, and how such transitions can be done effectively. It's a story about navigating complexity, fostering team collaboration, and ultimately achieving a scalable and resilient architecture.
Roman Shmyhelskyi is a Software Engineering Manager at Hitachi Vantara, with near 10 years of experience in software development and architecture. He specialises in growing projects, fostering team collaboration, and driving scalable, resilient solutions.
TALK No.2: Building Resilient Applications with Cell-Based Architecture on AWS with Liliia Rafikova of AWS
A talk on “Building Resilient Applications with Cell-Based Architecture on AWS” would focus on using a cell-based (or cell-oriented) architecture to build highly resilient, scalable, and fault-tolerant applications on AWS. Cell-based architecture, inspired by microservices, involves splitting an application into isolated “cells” or smaller copies of the application. Each cell handles a portion of the traffic independently, which improves resilience by containing failures within a cell and allowing for scalability and isolation.
Liliia Rafikova is an experienced backend software engineer. Having over 10+ years of industry experience with the last 5 years I work on building scalable, highly-available and low latency distributed systems.
TALK No.3: Scaling Terraform for the Enterprise with Lewis Marsden-Lambert of Appvia
With Terraform it's easy to get started, but eventually most engineers run in to scaling issues when expanding to multiple regions and accounts. In this talk we'll discuss some tricks and techniques that I've learnt over the years to keep your code clean and simple whilst allowing you to scale your infrastructure to new heights.
Lewis Marsden-Lambert - With over 14 years of hands-on experience in Amazon Web Services (AWS), Lewis loves the big, complex problems. As a Principal AWS Engineer at Appvia, he has worked across a range of industries varying from hyper-growth Fintechs to the most complex and highly-regulated Government organisations.
A seasoned professional with the stories and scars to prove it, Lewis has spent the last five years specialising in Kubernetes based platforms and shaping them to meet the demands of modern dev teams.
