Details

Hey Cloud Founders,

I would like to announce our next Cloud Foundry Munich Meetup hosted by our friends from Allianz!

For our first talk we have Michael Coté from Pivotal and for our second talk Thorsten and Matthias from Novatec.

Looking forward to see many of you again!

Agenda:

18:30 - 19:00 Meet and Greet with Pizza and Beer

19:00 - 19:15 Welcome to Cloud Foundry Munich Meetup

19:15 - 20:15 Platform as a Product - transforming from service delivery into continuous operations, Michael Coté, Pivotal

Most ops groups can’t give developers what they need. Ops is limited by traditional service delivery mindset and tools. Stability & reliability are now table-stakes when you’re releasing software daily. What developers need now from ops is innovation. Operations has rarely takes this innovation-driven, product approach to providing services, & instead focuses on delivering to specification & limiting SLAs. As with development, ops creates value with continuous operations, product managing their platforms and releasing frequently.

This talk covers how ops groups are transforming from a service delivery mindset a platform-as-a-product approach. With examples from Discover Financial Services, Rabobank & others the talk covers the concept, technologies & tools commonly used, & ops tactics needed to kick-off a platform-as-a-product strategy.

Texas Forever!

20:15 - 20:30 Break, and grep some more drinks!

20:30 - 21:30 Live Migration Demo of a WebSphere-based Java EE Monolith to Cloud Foundry, Thorsten Jakoby & Matthias Haeussler, Novatec Consulting

The intention of this talk is to show a live step-by-step approach to migrate a monolithic WebSphere application to Cloud Foundry. It starts showing the application running in it’s WebSphere environments and finishes running the migrated app on Cloud Foundry. On the migration journey the following steps are shown:

  • Deployment and runtime on WebSphere
  • Analysis of application in terms of required code changes and connected backend services
  • Configuration and bring up of the application on WebSphere Liberty Profile
  • Deployment and runtime on PCF Dev using Community Buildpack for Liberty
  • Migration of backend services to Cloud Platform (Microsoft Azure in this example)
  • Deployment and runtime of application on PCF on Azure
  • Application of strangler pattern to start slicing the monolith into Microservices.
