Hands on with Acorn: A new project for packaging Kubernetes applications

Details

In this presentation, Darren and Shannon will introduce Acorn, a new open-source project that aims to simplify building and running applications on Kubernetes.
Acorn is a containerized application packaging framework that seeks to simplify both the development process for Kubernetes and cluster operations. During this session we will introduce the concepts behind Acorn, how it compares to Helm and Operators, and demo how to get started with Acorn.

Over the course of the presentation, we’ll discuss:

  • What Acorn is, and how is it different from existing packaging frameworks like Helm and operators.
  • Writing Acornfiles to define how to build and run an application.
  • Building Acorn images from the Acornfile and pushing them to any OCI-compatible registry.
  • How to manage arguments, secrets, networking, links and other key Acorn elements.
  • Using the Acorn CLI to directly provision workloads to Kubernetes.
