TWMA Birding Hike (Easy) -- Coordinator Steve Kinne (315-882-3684)
(Tioughnioga Wildlife Management Area)
A slow, quiet hike on a section of the Link Trail of Madison County in the Tioughnioga WMA. We’ll start at the Damon Rd. DEC parking area east of New Woodstock and slowly proceed south for 1/2 mile, ending at the beaver dam complex. Spring migration is largely over so we'll see how many resident birds we can identify by sight/sound. This relatively short section offers a variety of bird habitats (mainly forest of different stages).
Bring binoculars, and any identification keys you like. Hiking distance is about 1 mile round trip up and down a gently sloping hill. Bring water, snack, insect repellent and dress for weather. Hiking shoes suggested although sneakers are probably fine if no rain.
Meeting time: 8:00 a.m. Please come 10-15 min early to sign in. (We’ll return to vehicles NLT 11:00)
Meeting place: Parking lot on Damon Rd., New Woodstock where the Link Trail crosses (2.4 miles east of the village of New Woodstock).
Directions: from Cazenovia, drive south on Rt 13. Turn left at the T-intersection with Rt 80. Follow Rt 13/80 east into New Woodstock and turn left where the road makes a 90 degree bend… this is Damon Rd. Follow Damon Rd for approx 2.4 miles
until arriving at the DEC parking area on your left.
