'Revolution' - Chapter Seven

In Chapter 7 of The Patriarchs, Angela Saini explores how Western colonial powers imposed rigid, patriarchal gender structures on societies that previously held more diverse, often egalitarian, or matrilocal traditions. Saini contrasts this with examples like the Haudenosaunee, showcasing how colonialism framed patriarchy as "modern" and indigenous practices as backward.

The only structure will be in that I will create prompt questions to keep the flow of the meet up going. I will also in the second half ask if we are up for break out rooms with specific related topics.

This will be like a 'book club' style meet up, but with the added element of current social issue discussion - so please come prepared having read or at least skimmed.
