'Destruction' - Chapter Four
Details
Chapter 4 of The Patriarchs by Angela Saini, examines how early states and the rise of private property, wealth, and agriculture fostered patriarchy by reducing women to property and controlling their sexuality to ensure patrilineal inheritance. It highlights that the development of agricultural surplus allowed men to dominate resources, subsequently leading to the institutionalization of gender-based labor divisions, where women were confined to domestic, unpaid roles.
