Chapter 5, titled “Restriction,” shows how women’s lives became increasingly controlled as states, laws, and religious rules developed over time. It describes how women’s rights to own property, work, inherit, or move freely were gradually narrowed, while states sought to regulate reproduction and family life to serve political and economic goals. The chapter also traces how stories, myths, and social norms built an image of “proper” womanhood that justified limiting women’s choices, making patriarchy feel natural even though it was slowly and deliberately constructed.

What do we think?

This will be a time to address any and all connections, assessments, or critiques made in relation to current, past or future events that have happened or are happening in real time in regard to this chapter.

This will be OPEN DISCUSSION - THE CHAPTER IS THE ONLY FOCUS!
The only structure will be in that I will create prompt questions to keep the flow of the meet up going. I will also in the second half create break out rooms with specific related topics.

This will be like a 'book club' style meet up, but with the added element of current social issue discussion - so please come prepared having read or at least skimmed.

I will moderate for any and all comments made that aren't in line with what it means to nurture a psychologically safe environment. Please be kind and respectful in your language.
