You've finally divorced or separated, but you're still required to communicate about or with your ex, see them everywhere, and enter into negotiations with this person on a regular basis. Why?
Your kids.
Whether you've healed from your divorce yet or not doesn't matter. From the moment you split, you had to remember to put your kids' needs first -- above any of your own anger, indifference, resentment, or sadness that may still linger.
Of course, that's no easy task.
Everyone is stressed in the days leading up to "the exchange" and in the days following. Each encounter brings renegotiations and resurfaced hurt. Every day is met with an unanticipated change and every visit uncovers a new issue concerning bedtimes, screen time, safety, and ... the step-parent.
You may not know what to do -- and likely want to cry, scream, or just not show up at times -- but you do know this for sure:
#### This is not sustainable.
BUT, it does NOT have to be this way.
You can learn the healing strategies and coping techniques, along with the strategies and tools you need to be the positive role-model and healthy and stable co-parent your child needs.
Your co-parenting relationship and interactions can be low-stress, positive, and healthy (as possible) for both you and your children.
In this boot camp and support group, I'll teach you the strategies and tactics you need to address and overcome the fundamental issues, which can detract from - or even obliterate - your chances for having a positive co-parenting relationship.
These include issues such as:
- residual problems from the divorce or separation
- bad-mouthing of the other parent
- imbalance of control and time spent with child
- emotional instability
- pervasive inconsistencies and competition between parents
- step-partner involvement
- unclear or inconsistent communication between parents
You deserve to have a happy next chapter and positive, respectful relationships, but it's not only about you...
Though divorce is perhaps one of the most painful transitions we, as adults, can face, it is undoubtedly hardest on the kids.
Studies show that children of divorce are more likely to:
- Struggle in romantic relationships
- Get divorced
- Struggle in relationships with their parents
- Attempt suicide
- Experience emotional problems like depression, anxiety, & loneliness
- Struggle with low self-esteem
- Experience health and social problems
However, we can, as their parents, take steps to make this transition just that – a transition – not a trauma.
We can ensure that the years that follow, involve healing, restoration, and a more peaceful future - not collecting more wounds.
