CodeAcross: Boston 2014

Details
Join Code for Boston for a day full of civic hacking, project demos, and great discussion as we look to push beyond transparency and kick off our 2014 event schedule.
At CodeAcross, we'll be looking to introduce new members of the Boston community to civic technology and open data, show off the projects that we (and other local civic technologists) have been building, and address civic problems in the Metro Boston area through code and conversation.
In the morning, we'll have a brief information session about our local Brigade as well as the national Code for America (http://www.codeforamerica.org) organization, followed by a series of project demos.
In the afternoon, we'll be providing two activity tracks for CodeAcross participants: a hack track and a talk track.
The hack track is geared towards developers, designers, and others who want to roll up their sleeves and dig into some code. We have a number of in-progress Code for Boston (http://www.github.com/codeforboston) projects to work on including Finda (https://github.com/codeforboston/filter-template), Adopt-a-Tree (https://github.com/codeforboston/lorax), MA Code (https://github.com/codeforboston/ma-laws), Pantry Pickup (https://github.com/codeforboston/pantry_pickup), WillTheyTow.Me (http://www.willtheytow.me), and more. Participants may also pitch their own civic projects to the community.
The talk track is geared towards civic activists, researchers, academics, government folks, and other non-coders who want to learn more about open data and civic technology, and how it can have a positive impact on their local communities, organizations, or municipalities. Although we have several topics we'd like to discuss, participants are encouraged to suggest their own topics for each session.
We hope to see you there!

ABOUT CODEACROSS
CodeAcross is part of a weekend of civic innovation events taking place in +60 cities in the US and across the world, sponsored by Code for America. Coinciding with International Open Data Day (http://opendataday.org/), the theme of CodeAcross 2014 is BEYOND TRANSPARENCY: how we can move past simply focusing on opening data, but on how we can make it actionable for use in understanding and improving our local communities. Read more about CodeAcross here (http://www.codeforamerica.org/codeacross-2014/).
