Event Sourcing with Axon, Building self-driving RC car & Beer tasting

Details

Our very first meetup!!! Together with OpenValue we'll host a meetup with some pretty good tech talks from experienced speakers. The location is the office of Between in Amsterdam (thanks Between!). Doors open 17:30, Food at 18:00, finish around 21:00. We end the evening with a special beer tasting, provided by Ramon Wieleman of Java startup Code Nomads, details below.

All sessions will be presented in English.

Real-life Event Sourcing with Axon Framework

Would you like to start using Event Sourcing for your next project? Afraid of the learning curve it might pose? Fear not, this talk will take you through the basics of Event Sourcing and walks you through the first steps of setting it up. The material is based on a real-life project which was built in only 6 months time using Axon Framework. During this relatively short period, we came across several caveats and definitely ran into some things, from which you can learn to embrace this technology that is rapidly growing in popularity.

Speaker: Jan-Hendrik Kuperus

Bio: Being a bit of a geek in this era is just heaven. We are constantly greeted by new technologies and new innovations. I love playing with these and figuring out where they can help me in delivering more value in shorter amounts of time. I’m a freelance Software Engineer / Architect and I love sharing what I know to try and help others. That shared interest is why I have decided to team up with the people at OpenValue and you may expect to see more talks from me in the future. I look forward to meeting you at this meetup and in the meantime, you can reach me on twitter through @jhkuperus.

Building a self-driving RC car

This session will share our experiences in converting a small remote controlled car into an autonomous driving vehicle. We'll talk about electronics, sensors, AI, computer vision and of course, the software that ties everything together.
We'll introduce you into the world of self driving cars and compare our solution to the stuff that is done in the big leagues by the likes of Tesla's 'autopilot' and Waymo's self driving cars. We'll explain the challenges that have to be faced and the dilemma's that come with creating a car being driven by software in real world scenarios.

Speakers: Bert Jan Schrijver & Tim van Eijndhoven

Bio Tim: Software Craftsman at JPoint, currently working as an architect in an environment using an advanced reactive stack. Interested in anything software development related his main interests are on Java, software architecture, security and open source. Tim likes sharing his knowledge and experience with his fellow developers by writing articles and speaking at conferences. He tries to inspire future generations of developers by teaching kids how to code at events like Devoxx4Kids.

Bio Bert Jan: CTO at OpenValue and software craftsman at JPoint. He focuses on Java, Continuous Delivery and DevOps. Bert Jan is a Java Champion, JavaOne Rock Star speaker and user group leader for NLJUG, the Dutch Java User Group. He loves to share his experience by speaking at conferences, writing for the Dutch Java magazine and helping out Devoxx4Kids with teaching kids how to code.
