Coding the Future in 2017

2017 is the Year of Digital Technologies in schools right across the country, where coding in the Australian Curriculum comes to life.

Come along to this meet-up to find out what this curriculum means for schools, what’s involved and how best to get started.

Hear from teachers and volunteers involved in Code the Future projects and find out how easy it is to get started and help code the future in 2017!

Balendran is the Chief Technology Officer at Bluedot Innovation where his focus is on disrupting the status quo of location services industry through a cutting edge location services product. He is passionate about developing people to create long term sustainability and success of teams.

The need and the understanding of the importance of grassroot level tech education for social and economic empowerment prompted Balendran and Bluedot to work with Code the Future.

Outside work, If he is not spending time with his 8 year old daughter Roveenaa, Balendran is either playing chess or listening to music.

Come along to hear about Bluedot's journey with Code the Future and some of the interesting collaborative school projects the Bluedot Team are working on.

Katherine Roan is a passionate Secondary Teacher at Roxburgh Park College. She also runs a food truck business 'Paper Plains' with her younger sister Ang.

After being frustrated at the lack of entrepreneurial skills that her students were being exposed to, she organised and ran a three-day 'Highschool Entrepreneur' program in Melbourne.

At the end of the three days' students presented their innovative solutions for improving entrepreneurial education in schools. The weekend attracted over a dozen mentors from industry and the winning team presented at the Foundation for Young Australians office in Melbourne. She recruited two mentors through Code the Future to assist over the 3 days.

She will be sharing her journey of getting this event to happen and what she learned along the way.
