Hi everyone, mark your calendars for Friday, June 14 when some of our colleagues at CalTech will be hosting a Library Carpentry event on using Git. There will also be some time for additional presentations in the afternoon--message me if you'd like to give a talk or lead a discussion.

*** LOCATION ***
Sherman Fairchild Library, 3rd floor, Multimedia Conference Room

*** PARKING ***
Parking is free on Friday due to commencement, but there may be more traffic than usual. You can park in any non-reserved spot in a Caltech parking garage, or on streets where the normal two-hour parking limits have been lifted:
• Hill Avenue from California to Del Mar
• Del Mar Boulevard from Hill Avenue to Catalina
• Catalina Avenue from Del Mar to California
• San Pasqual Street from Wilson to Mentor
• Wilson Avenue from San Pasqual to California

9:30am-12:30pm: Git lesson (see "what to bring" instructions below) with Tommy Keswick (CalTech) and colleagues
12:30-1:30pm: Lunch (on your own, dining options here: http://dining.caltech.edu/locations )
1:30-2:30pm: Lightning talks (present something you're doing, or ask the group for advice on something--last-minute signups are still welcome! Sign up here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1L0dZEhy5zCiDFPOzXP4MSprzNoR5axTRConmGifwd3s/edit?usp=sharing )
2:30-3pm: Update on Code4lib Socal survey (take it here if you haven't yet: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc1bO1JOQHvda2a6NJS75mttSkVjxqXiGlF5ychePwK9mrGGQ/viewform?usp=sf_link ), continued discussion on group meetings & operation

*** What to bring for Git workshop ***
You should bring a laptop and try to install git or git desktop before Friday. The instructors will also be able to troubleshoot installation problems before the start of the workshop. Follow the git installation instructions for your operating system at https://carpentries.github.io/workshop-template/#git. To install Git Desktop, download the installer from desktop.GitHub.com (linux users go to GitHub.com/ShiftKey/desktop/releases)
