Project Workday: UIPA.org

This is a project specific workday for those interested in working on UIPA.org.

Note: This is a work-oriented meeting. If this is your first time attending the group or are just checking it out, you might want to attend one of the Monthly Civic Tech Volunteer Intro, Onboarding, and Socializing meetings instead. While you are more than welcome to still show up at this meeting, the primary focus will be on doing work (limited onboarding).

Problem
Getting information from the government is our right under the Freedom of Information Act, however the process is more opaque than you might expect. It is hard to know which agencies to request information from, what their contact information is, if you are filling out the forms right, ...etc. So even if we are deserving of information, that means nothing if we can't get the information.

Solution
The Uniform Information Practices Act 92F (UIPA) is Hawaii's adoption of the FOIA. This portal is a way to help individuals through the process of submitting a FOIA request, as well as open sourcing the requests and responses for others to view - all for free!
