Join us for CodeUp Chester on Tuesday 20th November, 7pm-9pm at Storyhouse! Find us in the meeting room on the first floor, in the reading room.

CodeUp is a free mentoring program for adults who want to learn how to code. This month we’ll be operating on a learner-led drop in basis - meaning there’s no set agenda or workshop leader - just a group of learners and mentors. Have a think of the kind of thing you’re interested in learning about, or if you’re an experienced dev please consider sharing whatever projects you’re working on at the moment.

Oh that note... CodeUp Chester is suitable for anyone - from complete beginners who have never written a line of code, to experienced developers, and anyone in between. We often see people who want to get into coding, but don’t know the first thing. We’ll be able to buddy you up with someone who knows their stuff, or include you in any group conversations we think would be useful for you.

This is an awesome opportunity to take that first step into finding out more about programming, hack away at side projects, or meet with other newbies, developers & techies. We’re not any one language exclusive, but feel free to let us know what your experience/interest is in before you arrive.

This month we are partnering up with Liz from Code Club North West, who will be running a workshop and meetup for anyone interested in volunteering for a local code club (like CodeUp but for kids!) They'll be with us from 6pm-8pm, you can find out more info here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/code-club-chester-meetup-workshop-tickets-51189432972

Further Information

What is CodeUp?

CodeUp Chester is a mentoring program for adults who would like to learn how to code for free. Once a month we provide a workspace for people with no programming skills to come and learn the basics, with mentors available to answer your questions and help you on your way.

Our sessions are also be suitable for people with basic skills who need support to develop them, and even for people with intermediate or advanced skills who just want to come along to a space where everyone is immersed in code!

Where will the session be held?

CodeUp Chester meets at Storyhouse on Hunter Street, usually in the meeting room. If you need help finding us once you're here ask someone with a Storyhouse lanyard or t-shirt to point you in the right direction.

What do I need to bring with me?

Your own computer preferably, but if you can't bring one we will try to buddy you up with someone else. There will be power and free WiFi to use.

Opportunities

We're always looking for people who would like to get involved with CodeUp Chester behind the scenes. If you've got some ideas or expertise to share (or even just some time and energy!) get in touch for more information.

If you’d like to deliver a workshop or talk either as an individual or to represent your organisation or group, we are now taking submissions! This could take any form you like and could literally be on any subject that you think might benefit our community, whether it’s about job opportunities, your experience, certain languages or methods, or anything else! Just bear in mind that your talk/workshop should be as accessible to beginners and learners as possible.

If you’re interested, please email codeupchester@gmail.com or send a message on meetup with a short description of what you’d like to do, including details of any special equipment, space or other requirements you’d need to deliver the session.

We hope to see you soon!
