What we're about

Coffee&Code Belfast is a Meetup for those who are new to coding. We run monthly Saturday sessions, pairing / teaming up to work on coding challenges, and also practice development processes including Github collaboration. Each month, a guest mentor will help guide us through the challenge.

Our aim is to provide a fun, supportive and welcoming space to learn by doing, expand existing skills and meet others on a similar path.

Anyone can attend, any age (18 to 100!), any level, especially those who are self-taught and would like to gain team experience away from online courses. Even if you're just thinking of a new career path as a developer, you can come along and see what it's all about!

Coding Challenge #002

Clockwise

We'll be meeting to take part in another beginner level coding challenge and also hear an inspiring talk to motivate us new coders! Paul McBride, a self-taught developer, software coach, and tech enthusiast will be joining us as a guest speaker and mentor this month. From traveling the world in the RAF to transitioning to a developer role by teaching himself to code online, Paul will be sharing with us "Lessons of a Self Taught Developer" he's learned along the way. David Cutting is also joining as a guest mentor to help guide us through the challenge. David is an award-winning, Computer Science lecturer and author, with a background in IT consulting. Having completed an MSc and PhD at the University of East Anglia, he is now a Lecturer (Education) at Queen's University. This event is ideal for those who are new to coding, or those who would like to revisit / practice development, in a relaxed and supportive environment. Our sponsor, Clockwise Belfast, a flexible co-working space based in the newly renovated and stunning River House building in the Cathedral Quarter, is kindly providing a fantastic space and hot beverages to keep us going on a Saturday morning! For more info on Clockwise Belfast check out: https://workclockwise.co.uk/ **A warm welcome to Ciara Magee who has officially joined Coffee&Code Belfast as organiser and challenge creator! Ciara, a Queen’s University Computer Science student, is currently a Software Engineer in placement at Kainos and also teaches A-Level Software Systems Development in her spare time.** All levels and ages (18 to 100!) are welcome to join. All you need to bring is your own laptop, your favourite IDE / editor (eg. Sublime, Atom) and a problem-solving attitude! Even if you've no coding experience, please come along for a coffee and a chat and see what it's all about.
