Welcome to the first meeting of the group.
We’ll be starting with Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, a personal favourite and one of the most well-known works of stoic philosophy. For this session, we’ll focus on Books (chapters) 1–3.
It’s not a lecture or a class, just a relaxed, open discussion. The goal is to explore the ideas together and see how/if they apply to our own lives. Also gives us a reason to read a bit more😅
Some of the things we’ll talk about:
• What stands out or resonates from the reading
• What feels unrealistic, outdated, or difficult to apply
• The overall Stoic mindset—discipline, control, perspective
• How these ideas could be used in modern life
You don’t need any background in philosophy to join. Even if you didn’t finish the reading, you’re still welcome to come and listen or jump into the conversation.
The goal is simple: good discussion, different perspectives, and practical takeaways.
Feel free to bring a copy of the book, notes, or just yourself.
