Friendly monthly meetup for Colchester’s creative and digital community with two short talks and time to meet people. Free with RSVP.
An evening of practical ideas and relaxed connection for Colchester’s creative and digital community.

#### This months subject

Thinking about going freelance? Wondering if it’s time to go limited? Curious how other studios and small businesses are set up or even interested in co-ops and worker owned models?

This month is all about business models and practical advice for people in creative and tech sectors, from freelancers to small businesses.

Ben Philp from Creative Coop has been a sole trader, run a limited company, and led a co-op while also been on the employee side too all of which has been in the creative and tech sectors over the last 20+ years. Along the way he’s researched all of this in a lot of detail, and will be sharing . He’ll explain the main options in plain English from sole trader, limited company, partnerships, co-ops employee ownership, and what each means for tax, risk and admin.

He’ll also share practical tips on areas such as VAT, the Flat Rate scheme, business bank accounts, accounting software, R&D tax claims etc.

Then it’s over to you, with open Q&A. Bring your questions and even ideas for possible future talks you would like to know more about.

This talk is general information, not personal financial or legal advice.
