Focus on Debating

This meeting will include a debate with another ASC club on a motion to be chosen and agreed between the two clubs. One club will propose the motion and the other club will oppose it. The nominated proposer and opposer will then lay out the arguments for and against, followed by a speaker supporting the motion and a speaker opposing it. The chair will then invite views for or against from members who haven't spoken and after 15 minutes the proposer and opposer will sum up. A vote will be taken of members of both clubs before both and after the debate and the club which has changed the minds of the most members will be declared the winner. Juding by past debates, this will be lots of fun :-)

Don't forget you can earn your Foundation Certificate in Public Speaking by the end of your first season and your full ASC Certificate in Public Speaking by the end of your second season. You'll then become an Accomplished Speaker of the ASC (Association of Speakers Clubs) which is a CPD accredited certificate and can be shown to an employer to verify your speaking skills. Please come along and try us out - I guarantee you'll learn a lot about public speaking :-) Coming along as a guest is free and if you decide to join us it will cost £35 per year for 11 meetings with full membership of the ASC the bargain :-)

Colchester Speakers Club is a fantastic place for beginners to overcome their fears and take their first steps on the road to speaking confidently in public. It's also suitable for more experienced speakers to improve their skills. We also welcome people who have a specific goal in mind, for example: acceptance speeches, wedding speeches and work based presentations. Over the years we've developed some very effective and proficient public speakers. Guests are very welcome to come along to see how we operate.
