The Launch Pad: Multi-Genre Meetup & Flash Writing Sprint
When: Wednesday at 6:00 PM EST
Where: Online (Link visible to RSVPs)
The Vision
Writing can be a solitary act, but the journey to publication shouldn't be. The Open Inkwell is a new community for writers who are serious about their craft but tired of the "gatekeeping" vibe of traditional workshops.
Whether you are deep into Science Fiction and Fantasy, or you're exploring Horror, Literary Fiction, or Mystery, this is your space. We are a "pro-path" group, meaning we aim to help each other get published in professional markets, but we believe that everyone—from first-time drafters to seasoned pros—belongs at the table.
What to Expect
We’ve designed our kickoff to be low-pressure, high-inspiration, and actually productive.
• 6:00 PM | Welcome & Intros: A quick "hello" from everyone. Share your name, your primary genre, and one theme or concept you’re currently obsessed with.
• 6:20 PM | The Dream Board: We’ll discuss the "business" of writing. What are your dream publications? (Think Clarkesworld, The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, The Sun, etc.) We’ll share resources on how to find the right home for your stories.
• 6:40 PM | The 15-Minute Flash Sprint: We’ll provide a few evocative, genre-bending prompts. We’ll mute our mics, turn off cameras if we like, and just write.
• 6:55 PM | Wrap Up: A quick check-in on how the sprint went. No pressure to share what you wrote—this is just to break the ice and get words on the page.
Who Should Join?
• Writers who want to start submitting their work to magazines and journals.
• Newcomers who feel intimidated by "experts-only" critique circles.
• SFF fans who also love to dabble in other genres.
• Marginalized voices, queer creators, and neurodivergent writers looking for a safe, supportive space.
What to Bring
- Your writing tool of choice (Laptop, notebook, or tablet).
- A curious mind and a supportive attitude.
- Your favorite beverage.
The Fine Print
• Inclusivity: We have a zero-tolerance policy for gatekeeping or harassment. We critique the work, never the writer, and we lead with radical encouragement.
• Online Etiquette: Cameras are always optional. We use the "Hand Raise" feature to ensure everyone gets a chance to speak without being talked over.
