Indian Trees Open Space Preserve, also knows as Big Trees (there are big redwood trees at the top).
Leave at 10:00am, back by 1:30pm (yes you get to sleep in).
Come enjoy the sunshine!!! The temperature is supposed to be perfect for hiking.
This is one of my favorite local hikes. This is a 8 mile hike into the Redwoods of Novato, reaching 1400 feet elevation. The views are beautiful and there is plenty of shade. The best part are the huge redwood trees at the top. This is a double lollypop hike (upper and lower loop). We will head up Big Trees Trail, hiking to the top of the mountain. Coming down we will take Indian Tree Fire Road, Ship's Mast Trail, Deer Camp Trail, and finally Upper Meadow Trail back to our cars.
Pace- 2.5 miles per hour. Intermediate to advanced. This is a steady up hill for half the hike. Great cardio workout.
No restrooms or running water. Please bring plenty of water and snacks.
We will take a 15-20 minute lunch break at the top and enjoy the views.
Directions: From Hwy 101 in Novato go West on San Marin Dr. to Novato Blvd. Continue straight on Sutro Ave. Where Sutro ends in a "T" intersection, take a right on Vineyard Rd. to the hilltop where the road turns to dirt. There is an open space sign on the left. Park along the shoulder of the dirt road.
Please arrive a few minutes early. We will circle up on time and leave immediately afterwards.
Please change your RSVP no more than 24 hours in advance if you cannot make it. If you do not take yourself out of the hike more than 24 hours in advance or simply not show up (3 times) you will be removed from the group. There are people on the waiting list wanting to join.
