Introduction to the Methods of Thelema
Details
Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
Thelema has for its spiritual pursuits "the method of science, the aim of religion." At our first class we considered the aim of religion, concluding that Crowley's "single main definition of the object of all magical ritual... the uniting of the Microcosm with the Macrocosm" applies not only to ritual but to the entire course of life itself.
In our next introductory class we will turn to the methods of science that Thelema employs in order to achieve that goal. Subjects will include Qabalah, which is the structural foundation of the bulk of ritual and meditative work, and then then an overview of the principal tools of Thelema, ceremonial magick and yoga. We will conclude with a brief survey of the various other fields of Western esotericism which are typically employed by practicing Thelemites, including tarot, alchemy, and astrology.
This class series is taught by Zeph Bender, who has been a student of Thelema and the Western Mystery Tradition since joining Builders of the Adytum in 1989, and has been an initiate of Temple of Thelema since 1997. He regularly teaches students in both private and public settings on such subjects as initiation, qabalah, alchemy, astrology, and tarot, endeavoring always to reveal the real world implications of even the most arcane subjects.
