Introduction to the Philosophy of Thelema
Details
Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
Thelema has for its spiritual pursuits "the method of science, the aim of religion." At our first two classes we considered these methods and goals and reviewed some of Aleister Crowley's introductory manuals in order to gain a foothold in the theory and practice of yoga and magick.
In our final class of this introductory series we will turn to the practical philosophy of Thelema which underlies and exhibits those goals, examining the Holy Books and other literature of the Thelemic canon, the prinicipal and lesser gods of Thelema, and the extraordinarily simple and enlivening ethics of Thelema. We will conclude with a discussion of initiation, including its purposes, expected labors and results, and options.
This class series is taught by Zeph Bender, who has been a student of Thelema and the Western Mystery Tradition since joining Builders of the Adytum in 1989, and has been an initiate of Temple of Thelema since 1997. He regularly teaches students in both private and public settings on such subjects as initiation, qabalah, alchemy, astrology, and tarot, endeavoring always to reveal the real world implications of even the most arcane subjects.
