Hello! We have an exciting book this round and it is a little long - so we are splitting it into two meetings. For the Oct. 29 meeting we will be discussing the first half of the book. Cannot wait to see you all!

A Fire Upon the Deep is a Hugo Award-winning 1992 science fiction novel by Vernor Vinge that follows two main storylines: the Straumli Realm's accidental awakening of a universal, malevolent power known as the Blight, and the subsequent crash-landing of survivors, including children, on a medieval planet inhabited by pack-minded alien "Tines". One of the children, Johanna, and her brother Jefri, are separated and caught in local conflicts, while a group of human and alien rescuers, along with a resurrected human intellect, try to stop the Blight's spread and reunite the children, all set against the backdrop of a galaxy divided by Zones of Thought
