Should the Government Create an Agency to Combat Misinformation?
Details
March's study of Freemasonry is an MPS Debate on the question: "Should the Government Create an Agency to Combat Misinformation?"
Synopsis:
Misinformation has been a topic of national discussion in recent years. Defined as information that is purposefully engineered to be misleading, misinformation has been cited in many arenas, including political discourse and social networks. Viral memes on social media, "fake news," and political speeches have all been cited as examples of this practice. Every day, people struggle to know how to determine what information is "good" from what is "bad." In order to stem the confusion, should the government create an agency to combat misinformation?
Mission Statement:
The Masonic Philosophical Society embraces the concept of learning, not for school, but for life, and believes that all men, who seek it, deserve access to continued education. We further embrace the concept of a community environment, where ideas can be shared and debated in an open forum. From the seven liberal arts to the arcane, we seek to gain and share the knowledge that is the legacy of mankind.
