Tuesday Morning Gravel Ride

Details
THIS RIDE IS CANCELLED.
The weather is looking fair for this ride (as of today, March 29th). We’re going to ride the Rock Island Trail from Falcon to Peyton and maybe a little more for those who want to. This is a flat, straight, out-and-back of about 18 miles that's a great route for those wishing to try gravel riding. The Trail may be soft and muddy so be prepared. A bike with narrow tires will not be permitted. It will also be windy. If the trail is excessively muddy the ride may be canceled. Park in the Safeway lot near the Jiffy Lube.
Newcomers are always welcomed for the first ride without paying CSCC membership dues. You will be asked to join if you show up for a second ride. You can join the CSCC at https://bikesprings.org/join-us.
The Tuesday Morning Gravel Ride is a no-drop ride with catch-up points along the route. We will typically ride at an intermediate pace (avg. 10-14 mph). We will leave from a different location each week. The ride leader will publish a link to the route on the Saturday or Sunday before the ride with the start location. You should be able to download the free version of Ride With GPS from your phone's app store.
Please note that in order to participate in this event you must read the following in its entirety, read all updates posted in the comments thread, and respond promptly to all direct messages from the ride leader. You must also examine the route via the weekly link for details on the distance, surface and elevation profile.
A gravel, cyclocross, or mountain bike would be appropriate for this ride. We will do the ride at a moderate pace (10-14 mph avg.) with some fast sections. This is a no-drop friendly ride, but you must have done this distance before, or something close to it, and be confident that you can finish the ride. There may or may not be a planned rest stop along the route, but we will have a “sweep" and will regroup as necessary to ensure no rider is left behind. If you need to turn around or if you ride off the front, then getting back is your responsibility and at your own risk. Cell phone service can poor or nonexistent in some of the areas we will ride. You should not take the lead and push the pace or split the group without consulting the ride leader.
To attend this event, you must bring a tire repair kit and spare tube to change a flat tire. If you don't know how someone will help you. A small multi tool should also be considered. It is your responsibility to have a working bike, dress appropriately for the weather for your level of exertion, remain hydrated, and to consume enough calories. Be sure to bring plenty of water and snacks and consider bringing a rain jacket. Helmets must be worn whenever you are riding the bike.
We will share the trails and roads with other riders and users. We will not buzz or bomb other users. We will not engage in risky behavior that could harm ourselves or other people. We will follow all traffic laws and yield the right of way where appropriate. We will not antagonize other road or trail users.
Please arrive early enough to check your bike’s ABC’s (air, brakes, chain) so we can roll out on time. If the group is ready we will leave. If you plan to ride, please RSVP to let the leader and others know you will be there. Newcomers are always welcomed for the first ride without paying CSCC membership dues. You can join the CSCC at https://bikesprings.org/join-us. Contact: Rich Heitman 614-946-4469.
