Sunday’s Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/54284011
This Sunday’s ride through the Garden of the Gods will be approximately 17.1 miles with an elevation gain of 991 feet. We’ll start by heading north on the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail before turning west onto the Sinton Trail just north of Goose Gossage Park. We’ll ride the entire length of the Sinton Trail and take a short break at the Loaf N Jug before heading into the park. Depending on the group, we may take a break at the first parking lot (the one with bathrooms) and will definitely stop at Balanced Rock (hopefully for a group picture). From there it’s mostly downhill! We’ll head east on El Paso Blvd, make our way to the Midland Trail and take it all the way to America the Beautiful Park where we’ll turn north on the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail and head back to Legacy Plaza.
The Sunday Social Ride is a casual (10 - 12 mph), no-drop ride with catch-up points along the route. There will be planned rest stops along the route as well as a designated“sweep” to make sure that no rider is left behind. You can download a free version of the Ride with GPS app from your phone's App Store and then save the route to your phone and/or bike computer.
Our Sunday rides are typically 10-20 miles depending on elevation gain, weather, and road conditions. Unless noted, we will leave from Legacy Plaza (off the I-25 and Centennial exit) and ride in different directions each week.
In order to participate in this event you should read the following in its entirety, read all updates posted in the comments thread, and respond promptly to all direct messages from the ride leader. You should also examine this week’s route via the link provided above for details on distance, surface and elevation profile.
Please arrive early enough to check your bike’s ABCs (air, brakes, chain) so we can roll out on time. You should bring a tire repair kit and spare tube to change a flat. It is your responsibility to have a working bike, dress appropriately for the weather, remain hydrated and to consume enough fuel to enjoy the ride. Helmets must be worn whenever you are riding the bike. You will also be required to sign a waiver prior to the start of the ride.
If you plan to ride with us please RSVP through Meetup to let the ride leader and others know you will be there.
NOTE: With uncertain weather patterns, this ride may become a “show-n-go.” The leader will update the Meetup event as soon as possible. The group that does show agrees where to go together. Be prepared with a sign-sheet. Instructions for where to send it after the ride are at the bottom of the first page.
