🎿🐎 Leadville Ski Joring – A Colorado Classic! 🐎🎿
Ski Joring is a high-energy competition where a horse and rider pull a skier at full speed down a snow-packed course lined with gates, jumps, and rings. Skiers are timed, with penalties for missed gates, jumps, or rings—and teams race for cash prizes. Teams are randomly drawn before the event, which keeps things exciting and unpredictable!
The Leadville Ski Joring event has been a beloved Colorado tradition since 1949 and is one of the premier ski joring events in the country.
📍 When: March 7th
Start Time: High Noon (first team on the course each day)
🎟 Cost: FREE for spectators!
🚗 Carpool Info
Leadville is about 2.5 hours away. I can take up to 3 people if anyone wants to carpool. Full disclosure: I’m not the world’s best driver 😅—so if someone else wants to drive, I’m very open to that!
Exact leave time will be set once I know who’s interested. From what I’ve read, it’s best to arrive around 10:00 AM to find parking and a good viewing spot.
👀 Best Viewing Spots:
Harrison Avenue—especially near the Opera House—offers great visibility of the course.
💬 As always, I’m open to suggestions!
