Beginner Guided Snowshoeing

#### Join a Pikes Peak Ranger for an easy outdoor adventure with a focus on how people and animals get around in the winter - Imagine being an early explorer trying to cross the mountains in snow!

#### This program will be a walk using snowshoes and is meant for beginners. We will learn the basics of snowshoeing and winter safety. We will meet at the Pikes Peak Gateway where each participant will pick up snowshoes and poles before driving partway up the mountain (this will also be the best opportunity to use the restrooms).

#### Weather permitting, our journey will start at the former ski area at mile 11.5 on the Pikes Peak Highway. The snowshoe hike itself will take about 90 minutes round trip with many stops for rest and learning. The pace will be easy although the terrain can be steep. Upon returning to the vehicles, participants will return the snowshoes to their Ranger guide and will be free to visit the rest of the Pikes Peak Highway.

#### Participants should be prepared for the whole program, from meeting at the Gateway to finishing the hike back at the cars, to take three hours.

#### Arrive at the Pikes Peak gateway by 9:45 A.M. for all Snowshoe Hikes.

• Adults (ages 16 and over) $20

• Passes are not valid due to special event
