When Aladdin tells Genie, he's going to set him free, Genie replies "Let's get real here. It's not gonna happen." Of course, as logical and experience-based as that response is, Genie's wrong.
Truth: Most writers believe if they just keep writing, they'll get better; and they will get better at writing, but not necessarily publishable writing. The first rule of rising to the next level of anything is practicing the right stuff. We can tell you what that "stuff" is. That's the truth.
