Groupon supports Circuses with Animal Prisoners

Hi Folks,

Below is a conversation that was on the email list a few weeks ago. I just discovered Christina's response and thought some of you might want to know about her message that groupon is making money by offering discount tickets for circuses that have captive wild animal "performers." crying

We can all do something simple to help the animals who are at the mercy of their users/abusers. Please send groupon a quick, polite note and let them know that this is unacceptable. Circuses that exploit animals are bullies. When we tolerate bullies, we send a message that their behavior is ok.

Also, the El Jabel Shrine circus will be at the First Bank Center the 2nd weekend in June. Please let your friends, family and coworkers know about the suffering of the animals and ask them please don't attend. Just so you know, some folks go on free tickets. Circuses with animals make most of their income from concessions and cheap plastic toys, all that children beg their parents to buy. Lets make people aware of that "free" ticket trap.

El Jabel Shrine circuses are especially bad because they claim to be fundraising for children in the hospital. That is not the whole truth. Only about 4% of the proceeds go to the charity. The circus lords get their money first. El Jabel knows this. It's all really despicable!

Thank you all, on behalf of the animals!! love struck

PS. El Jabel demonstrations in Broomfield -
See the calendar on AAN for all demo dates & times. Thanks!

From Christina:
I have boycotted Groupon because they sell tickets for circuses that exploit animals. I wrote to them and they basically don't care who they make deals with.

Boulder Baked has vegan cupcake options and they are included with this Groupon. For $15 you get a dozen cupcakes that can be vegan. You do have to call ahead to give 24 hours notice for 12 vegan cupcakes though as they don't normally have a large supply of them.

PS On an individual basis the vegan cupcakes cost 25c more than the non vegan ones, but the last time this deal was offered I had no problem getting 12 vegan ones.
