Virtual Introduction to "The Revenge of Philosophy: Group Objectives

Details

*** Meeting moved to Feb 8th to accommodate additional participants***

Greetings TROP Members,

Please join your The Revenge of Philosophy (TROP) group members to discuss the ethos, principles, and aspirations from which the group will operate.

  • Meeting Format: We'll walk through the IN-PERSON meeting format, meeting location and structure which will typically include 1-2 readings per meeting and a current societal topic that each session will apply the philosophical readings to
  • Expectations: We'll discuss the expectations for meeting participation including working knowledge of basic philosophical theories and the ability to apply theories and philosophical arguments to contemporary issues
Readings: We'll discuss the first 3 monthly themes which I've already planned. I'll seek input from the group on themes for future events.
Group Aspiration: Finally, we'll discuss my personal objective that this group become a model for clear, objective, reason-based thinking that spreads throughout our community. Amid our polarized times and fractious media environment, we have a new obligation to counteract the forces that are driving political and social tribalism. Let this group be a vanguard of well-intentioned truth seeking that uses the ancient method to reason our way to a better, more just society for all.

I look forward to meeting everyone.

Best,

John
