Join us as we explore the Leaflet.js library, which makes it very easy to embed a user-friendly map into your website and overlay your own data and shapes on it. We will cover the following general topics:
Embedding a map into a webpage Inserting custom data Applying custom stylings Responding to user interaction with your map How geo-data is represented in text (KML, GeoJSON, etc) If you want to participate hands-on, only a text editor a web browser are required. Having Node.js and NPM installed as well as a quick way to serve a directory up on localhost are helpful, but not necessary for the basics.

About the speaker:
John Marion is a computer scientist and web developer in Lexington County, SC. He taught himself programming and Unix fundamentals while in the military. Since leaving the military in 2014, he has worked for Amazon and then the consultancy firm Booz Allen Hamilton as a computer scientist. His initial interest in web development started with Python as a server-side language, but he is now working to learn other aspects of full stack web development. He assists in facilitating Python and Javascript meetups in Augusta, GA. He lives in a rural area with his wife, 5 children, a dog, and several chickens and geese.
