5 Mile Community Building Hike - Sun. June 2nd 9:30AM - Mt Sugarloaf - Deerfield

Details
We’re looking forward to meeting you!
We're hiking up to the top of Mt. Sugarloaf in South Deerfield, MA to take in some of the best views of the Happy Valley all while getting in a great workout and building community!
About this Hike:
~5 miles
~1,000 in elevation gain
~3 to 4 hours to complete
~there will be some steeper parts
~hiking boots or trail shoes required
~we'll be summiting both peaks at Sugarloaf
We’re not in this to compete. No one needs to be an expert hiker.
However, this will be a more challenging hike than most of the previous hikes we've done together as a group up to Goat's Peak at Mt. Tom or Mt. Holyoke at Skinner State Park.
*If you haven't hiked at least 3 miles and at least 500' in elevation at least once this season yet, this hike wouldn't be a great 1st hike for you -- please join us for another less challenging hike another time
What to bring:
- 2-3x as much water as you think you'll need
- Supportive hiking boots or trail running shoes (sneakers won't be safe on this hike)
- Snacks to eat along the way (we'll be burning upwards of 1,000 calories--so you'll be hungry!)
- Sunscreen / tick repellant / bug spray
- Hiking poles if you like to have them
We’ll meet where we park :
Set your GPS to 39 Mountain Rd, South Deerfield, MA. We'll park along the right side of Mountain Rd.
Start Time:
We’ll start heading up the trail right at 9:30. So do your best to arrive a little early or right on time so we’re sure not to head up without you.
If it rains, we'll most likely reschedule.
*Please allow meetup to send you notifications so you're sure to see any updates from us that day.
Check out our group description and welcome message to learn a bit about the culture of our group and our membership. We’re aiming for diversity and want to be sure that everyone who participates is an ally, friendly, or a member of the queer/trans, BIPOC, Jewish, or other religious or ethnic minority communities. As our group (which just started 1/11/23) grows, we hope to become one of the most diverse groups in the valley, made up of members who are friendly, playful, upbeat, love playing outside, and excited to make new friends from a wide variety of backgrounds!
Looking forward to hiking Mt. Sugarloaf and building community with you!
