What we’re about
Meet other hiking enthusiasts who are dedicated to hiking excursions near and far. We hike every Saturday. Our hikes vary from easy to difficult, depending on the hike location, terrain and length. We are committed to leaving no trace wherever we go.
We host camping trips a few times a year, backpack, snowshoe and organize field trips focused on topics such as geology and wildflower viewing. We work on wilderness legislation, along with participating in stewardship events that keep our city clean. We occasionally host graffiti cleanups at various locations and glass cleanups to help save the condors.
We're all about fun and a sense of community, and most of our events are completely free. All ages and fitness levels are invited to join us.

Backbone Trail - Inspiration Point to Sandstone Peak - Mishe Mokwa Trail Loop
DESCRIPTION: This is a beautiful hike in the Santa Monica Mountains with minimal shade along the trail. We will tackle the loop counterclockwise, navigating the trail’s continuous climbs and descents over uneven terrain, giving it a roller-coaster feel. At times, you may need to scramble over rocks, so trekking poles are recommended. Along the way, we will pass Split Rock and the Balancing Rock while we take in the striking sandstone formations, and enjoy sweeping views from both Sandstone Peak and Inspiration Point. We will stop for a snack break at Inspiration Point, and for those who wish to summit Sandstone Peak, it will involve a short climb with a little rock scrambling. The effort is rewarded with incredible panoramic views from the highest point in the Santa Monica Mountains.

DESCRIPTION: This challenging single-track delivers a solid workout through chaparral and shady oak forests, feeling like several different hikes rolled into one. The trail drops off the fire road into a shaded canopy, then climbs through steep sections with views nearly all of the way. You'll experience diverse terrain from oak woodlands in the north to expansive mountain and valley views in the south.
Wildlife watching is excellent here – spot California ground squirrels, various birds, and occasionally bobcats. The trail features well-graded switchbacks through gorgeous native oak and chaparral, though expect some exposed sections between the tree cover. Most hikers combine this with Canyon Trail for a rewarding loop that showcases Placerita Canyon's best terrain and scenery.
