HIKE THE NEW OPEN SPACE in GOLDEN VALLEY

Details

April 21-HIKE THE NEW OPEN SPACE in GOLDEN VALLEY-

There are 3 trails. Total distance of all 3 trails is close to 5.7 miles. We will travel all 3 trails which offer great views of the Golden Valley area and Placerita Canyon. There is no shade, so be sure to wear a hat and sunscreen. Most of the hike is flat or undulating, but in the beginning there is a climb up several hills to the ridgeline. The gain is about 500 ft. If the group wants to explore further, there is a great trail from Golden Valley that leads into East Walker Ranch. Just ask us, and we’ll be glad to take to into that area as well! We’ll even be able to use the animal corridor crossing to get there, without having to cross Placerita Canyon Road!

Meet at the trail head at 8:20 for an 8:30 departure. Bring water, camera, lunch or snacks. Poles are helpful if you have them. Please wear good boots, sunscreen, and a hat.

Directions to Golden Valley: Take the S-R 14 to Placerita Canyon Road. If you’re coming from the I-5, turn right at the base of the offramp. About 2 miles beyond the entrance to Placerita Natural area, you will see the Walker Ranch parking area on the right. Just beyond this, you will see a gate on the LEFT side of the road, and an open space sign. This is where you can park. You can also park at Walker Ranch and walk over to the Golden Valley Gate if the spaces at Golden Valley are full. Pay attention to no parking signs along the road.

Leader: Nikki

Rated: Easy to Moderate (due to the hills)
