Intro to Taiko Drumming Workshop for adults ages 15+

This is an INTRO TO TAIKO DRUMMING WORKSHOP!

For folks 15+, no drumming experience necessary! Just bring yourself, wear comfortable clothes you can move in. We provide all equipment, including drums and bachi (drumsticks), for use in workshops and classes.

You'll get an intro to the basics of TAIKO DRUMMING:

• how to strike the drum to get a solid, powerful sound
• playing a short song with a group
• the terms for different kinds of drums
• warming up your body for moving in taiko
• channeling your energy into your drumming

We love taiko, and we hope you will too!

~~Things to know~~
Taiko drumming is traditionally played standing, however we can modify the activity for seated playing.

Taiko is LOUD! We provide disposable, foam earplugs, but feel free to bring other ear protection.

Taiko is traditionally played barefoot or in shoes designed for playing. We hold classes in dance studios, with hardwood or marley floors. Many students play barefoot or in socks, others opt to wear soft-soled shoes like sneakers. Please be sure any shoes you wear inside the dance studio are free from material that would damage the floors (no gum or rocks in the soles, etc.)

Our class location at PURDANCE has ample off-street parking, a water fountain, and climate control.
