Caught in a Time Between Worlds

Details

Cornerstone Melbourne and the Centre for a Compassionate Society are coming together for an evening of rich dialogue about the state of our world.

OUR COMMUNITY QUESTIONS AND EXPLORATION:
We are in a time between worlds: Old paradigms of meaning and spiritual connection are falling apart, but replacements have not yet emerged.
What is the future of spirituality and meaning in a secular society such as ours?

OUR FORMAT:

  • 40-min Talk and discussion with our panelists, with one of us as a conversational facilitator.
  • 40-min Break-out groups for community discussion and question formulation.
  • 30-min Q&A with the panel.
  • Warm tea and a room of like-hearted individuals

These evenings of deep discussion aim to strike a balance between hearing from wise and experienced subject matter experts, and creating a sense of community participation in the important conversations of our times. This is done by including both a component of listening deeply to our guests, and then creating space for group discussion, reflection and sharing about how the topics raised relate to our personal lives. In doing so, we hope to foster the felt sense of a participatory learning community.

OUR PANELISTS:
Dr. David Tacey
David Tacey is a public intellectual and a recognised international authority on psychoanalysis and spirituality. He has published several bestselling books on mental health, spirituality and gender. Many of his books and articles are with international publishers and he often writes by invitation from editors and publishers. He is an interdisciplinary scholar who works across several fields, including literary studies, psychoanalytic studies and religious studies.
Dr. Petrina Barson
Petrina is the director of the Centre for a Compassionate Society. She is a teacher of Compassion Cultivation Training, a mother, a doctor, a poet and an activist on issues of climate change and refugee rights. The thread that runs through all these domains is her passion for compassion, and her deep conviction that we have more in common than divides us.

CENTRE FOR A COMPASSIONATE SOCIETY:
The Centre for a Compassionate Society organises and supports activities that lead to a more compassionate way of being with ourselves, with one another and with our planet.

ALL ARE WELCOME:
All ages, cultures, and orientations.
This event and this series seek to create spaces for all, as we seek to build bridges, and weave trust. We hope to co-create open, connective, and generative dialogues; even in all of our differences.
šŸŒ HONOURING THE LANDS AND WATERS WE GATHER WITH:
We acknowledge that this event takes place on and with unceded Aboriginal land. We pay our utmost respect to the Wurrundjeri people from the Kulin nation and invite all who join us to remember history, pain, and privilege as we seek to include history, live, love, and lead in ways that allow a more inclusive and regenerative future to emerge.
We look forward to seeing you!
