Simulation and digital twin technology in the form of virtual platforms are a key part of modern silicon, system, and software development. Using a variety of techniques, it is possible to provide software developers and testers with access to future silicon platforms years ahead of actual hardware availability. This shortens time-to-market and lets software developers shift-left both development, testing, and system integration.

Virtual platforms are also key to efficient software development and maintenance after the hardware is available, i.e., post-silicon. For automotive, aerospace, and embedded systems, simulation is an absolute necessity. It frees software teams from the friction caused by limited access to physical hardware and enables true digital twins where software is tested in an entirely virtual environment. Virtual platforms make it easy to support old and new hardware platforms, even as systems live for decades.

At this event, we will hear from experts on both pre-silicon and post-silicon virtual platforms. We will discuss the fundamental technologies involved in efficient simulation of computer systems for software development and the integration with the many other tools and technologies that are necessary to construct true digital twins.

We have two talks lined up:

**Pre-Silicon Virtual Platforms in Semiconductor Development**, by **Fredrik Larsson**, Principal Engineer at Intel Sweden. Fredrik is one of the original developers of the Intel Simics simulator, and has worked with virtual platform technology for more than 25 years.

**Post-Silicon Virtual Platforms in Automotive and Embedded,** by **Jakob Engblom**, Product Marketing Director at Cadence. Jakob is Product Marketing Director for the VLAB virtual platforms product at Cadence. He has worked with virtual platforms, simulation, and embedded software since 2002, at Virtutech, Wind River, Intel, ASTC VLAB Works, and now Cadence.
